About Us Scotcloth was founded in 2006 by Hamish Carruthers, Shelia-Mary Carruthers and David Kemp, a team with over 90 years combined experience in textile design. Scotcloth, the ultimate tool for textile designers and innovators, is based on the globally known ScotWeave computer aided design and management system, which has been perfected over 25 years and is one of the most versatile textile design engines in the world. Scotcloth has simplified this system to make the process of textile design available on screen to both the inexperienced and the experienced operator.
At its simplest, it can be used to view a comprehensive library of textile images over a range of categories. At its more complex, the system will allow the operator to engineer existing images to their own requirements by altering weave or other constructions, dimension and colour on screen and then download their unique design in print form, or send the image, together with technical manufacturing details, including Pantone® colour references, to anywhere they choose.
The Scotcloth design archive includes over 70,000 images for almost all categories of clothing and furnishing fabrics. The library also contains a wide range of fabric constructions, which can be used, with the simple click of a button, to alter the appearance of an image.
Our collaboration with Pantone® gives the user the possibility of colour change, with colour references which allow for accurate translation of requirements from source to chosen manufacturer. Scotcloth recommends that physical Pantone® colour chip systems are used to check for accuracy as each computer screen and printer show colour variance.
